Another week that went by fast. It has been hot and very humid the last couple of days. ANgie and Ronnie brought their new daughter home from the hospital today. Esther... I know you are up there spoiling that new grandbaby! Spoil her a little for me too.
We ordered take out from a local diner and again the stray cat was outside laying on the side walk. It breaks my heart to see it there all dirty and matted but it still will not let me pick it up. I just want to bring it home and clean it up and show it lots of love and find it a forever home. Yeah John says that I am a sucker but so be it I love animals.
Hoping the weather man is wrong and we do not get thunder storms tomorrow as I want to go fishing. I enjoy being out near the water. I have been walking about a mile a night getting my exercise in like the doctor ordered. John says I am practically running and always asking me to slow down.....lol

A muggy Tuesday here... is the rain and thunder ever going to stop?
Been sneaking small walks in between the rain lately.
Have a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle out on the table of a black bear and boy it is a tough one but it gives us something to do in this weather. Hoping I feel abit better for the weekend as I want to go riding the quad. I will just take it easy.
I am going to try to get to my room to clean out the closets tomorrow... too many clothes. Time to sort them out and donate them on craigslist.
Less then a month before my granddaughter makes her appearance. I am sure Diane can not wait to have her. I will post pictures to share with everyone.
We are praying for our little Alina that her parents are searching for her and will see her beautiful face and know in their hearts that this is their daughter.
Hope everyone is having a great nights sleep as that is where I am heading as it is almost 3 am. Good night all.

BRUSSELS, Nov. 13 — A 21-year-old man with Down syndrome tied to a metal crib for 11 years. Children, naked from the waist down, left to eat and defecate in their beds. A 7-year-old girl with fluid in her brain left untreated “because she will die anyway.”

A dehydrated girl is tied to a crib at an institution in Kulina. A group says such problems could have been prevented.
These are some of the allegations of abuse at Serbian state mental institutions and orphanages described in a report to be released Wednesday by Mental Disability Rights International, a group based in Washington that spent four years investigating the treatment of some of the 17,200 children and adults with disabilities in institutions in Serbia.
In the report, which is expected to be read closely by European Union officials who are assessing Serbia’s readiness to join the 27-member bloc, researchers concluded that “filthy conditions, contagious diseases, lack of medical care and rehabilitation and a failure to provide oversight renders placement in a Serbian institution life-threatening.” European Union officials said that such reports would be a basis for their assessments of a country’s record in upholding human rights, and of its readiness to enter the union.
The institutions investigated include the Kolevka, or Institution for Children and Youth, in Subotica; the Institute for Mentally Ill People, in Curug; the Institution for Children and Youth, in Kulina; the Special Institute for Children and Youth, in Stamnica; and psychiatric hospitals in Vrsac and Kovin, east of Belgrade.
Eric Rosenthal, executive director of the rights group, said the use of physical restraints on children for years at a time was the most extreme he had seen during 14 years as a disability rights advocate. He said there were no enforceable laws in Serbia regulating the use of such restraints.
“This is the most horrifying abuse I have seen on powerless children, who are tied to beds and unable to move,” he said. “This constitutes a clear case of torture.”
Vladimir Pesic, a Serbian government official dealing with disability issues, declined to comment, saying he had not seen the report.
Last week, the European Union gave pro-Western forces in Serbia a lift by supporting a deal that would accelerate Serbia’s joining the union by cementing closer economic and political ties. But the allegations of abuses could add to the hurdles Belgrade faces, which include its failure to arrest and turn over war crimes suspects indicted in The Hague and the uncertain future of the breakaway province of Kosovo.
Mr. Rosenthal said the extent of the abuse at mental institutions in Serbia was particularly egregious, given that countries had spent tens of millions of euros to help rebuild institutions in Serbia after the 1999 NATO-led war against the country, when it was led by Slobodan Milosevic.
“The mental institutions have been newly rebuilt with the help of the West, so the abuse is happening in clean, new buildings built with foreign money,” he said. “This tragedy could have been prevented.”
Laurie Ahern, an investigator who toured the Serbian mental institutions with a registered nurse, said she was most alarmed by the case of a man with Down syndrome, who was tied to his bed at Stamnica, an institution southeast of Belgrade.
When Ms. Ahern asked a nurse how long it had been since the patient had left the bed, the nurse replied, “Eleven years,” she said.
“There were rows upon rows of young people with Down syndrome,” Ms. Ahern said. “These children are mobile and can move around. But they are being left in metal coffins to lie there until the day they die.”

SAD NEWS: John's cousins son
Troy swimmer drowns in Hudson
By Danielle Sanzone, The Record
PLEASANTDALE — A 19-year-old Troy resident drowned when he failed to emerge from the Hudson River’s cold waters after doing a front flip off a 14-foot cliff, officials said.
The victim, who witnesses identified as a city teen named Colton Brown, went to a small boat launch off Riverbend Road with a group of friends from Hudson Valley Community College to escape the hot afternoon temperatures. A little after 5 p.m., four of the friends jumped off the cliff into the 12-foot deep waters below and only three surfaced.
The Troy Fire Department, Pleasantdale Fire Department, Rensselaer and Albany county Sheriff’s deputies, and the State Police responded.
After approximately 40 minutes of searching with the county’s diving team, Brown, pale and unconscious, was found at about 5:50 p.m. As soon as the divers got the teen on the boat, they started performing CPR and continued the lifesaving procedure until they reached St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy where Brown was pronounced dead.

“He actually invited me to go swimming with him too,” said Shawn Krill, Colton Brown’s co-worker at the Deli & Brew near Hudson Valley in Troy, who was at the scene Thursday afternoon. “Then, an hour after he called me, my brother called to say they were looking for a body at the same spot Brown was going. I couldn’t believe it.”
As emergency crews moved the body from the boat to the ambulance, wails of sorrow came from his friends, his girlfriend, and his mother who had seen him alive only hours before the incident.
“There are going to be a lot of unhappy people,” said Krill. “He was a great kid and a real Troy boy.”
Authorities at the scene speculated that the death may have been caused from shock of the cold water.
“I have seen some miracles where people have been submerged two hours and we can still wake them up,” said Fire Chief Tom Garrett. “He didn’t make it, though.”
Friends who swam with Brown often were taken aback by his passing since they described him as “a good swimmer, energetic, and always in the water,” Krill said.
The popular swimming spot, near the intersection of Riverbend and Marion Avenue was an area where swimming is allowed, said Garrett.

Drowning believed to be tragic accident
By Danielle Sanzone, The Record
TROY — Nice. Outgoing. Caring. A good, decent kid. A hard-worker.
These were all descriptions of Colton Brown, the 19-year-old from Troy who drowned in the Hudson River Thursday afternoon after doing a front flip into the cool waters from a cliff in Pleasantdale in the town of Schaghticoke.
Brown, an employee at the Deli & Brew and a member of Troy High School’s Class of 2007, was with a group of five friends Thursday when he jumped off a 14-foot cliff into the river and never surfaced from the open water.
“His passing is a loss to the Troy High community,” said High School Principal John Carmello. “The effects have been widespread. We had counselors on-call (Friday) for several students who were upset about the incident. He was caring, outgoing and, overall, a good kid.”

The school has started fundraising efforts in their guidance counselor office to raise money for the family, to help with costs of the funeral services, officials said.
At Brown’s place of employment, things will not quite be the same either, said Kenneth Stulmaker, owner of the Deli & Brew adjacent to Hudson Valley Community College.
“He was a great kid and a great worker. He always cared about other people. He will be missed,” said Stulmaker.
While toxicology results from Friday’s autopsy were not immediately available, authorities believe that the incident was an accident and no foul play was involved, said Sgt. Marc St. Germain with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department.
“Nothing was out of place in the autopsy,” he said.
Officials believe that Brown, a resident of First Street in South Troy, was possibly knocked out when he hit the 12-foot deep water chest-first after a front flip off the cliff.
The Troy Fire Department, Pleasantdale Fire Department, Rensselaer and Albany County Sheriff departments, and the State Police responded after Brown’s friends called 911.
After approximately 40 minutes of searching with the county’s dive team, Brown, unconscious, was found at about 5:50 p.m.
As soon as the divers got Brown on board the boat, they started performing CPR and continued the lifesaving procedure until they reached St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy where Colton was pronounced dead.
“He actually invited me to go swimming with him too,” said Shawn Krill, Brown’s co-worker at the Deli & Brew, who was at the scene Thursday afternoon.
“Then, an hour after he called me, my brother called to say they were looking for a body at the same spot Colton was going. I couldn’t believe it.”
As emergency crews moved the body from the boat to the ambulance, wails of sorrow came from his friends, his girlfriend, and his mother who had seen him alive only hours before the incident.
