A few dollars CAN go a long way

This is a dual post written by Shelley over at Embracing Life as Household 6! I think this is a great idea. Yes, of course I asked her before I copied it :) And yes, it is an exact copy so the "I's" are referring to Shelley. Please consider helping out these families to raise funds to bring their little ones home!

A few dollars CAN go a long way

Through the incredible generosity of a whole lot of people I may never get to meet in person, I was able to raise $1100 for the grant fund of a waiting angel on Reece's Rainbow with the hopes that this money will help her to find a family. What that fundraising effort showed me was that just a few dollars CAN go a long way. So, I wanted to do a post highlighting some of the families of RR who have committed to adopt and our currently raising funds for their adoption. Maybe something they are giving away will peak your interest. I know that God commands us to take care of orphans(yep, the Bible says that), but I also know that not everyone is actually meant to adopt. However, I do believe that we are all meant to help....and a little bit of help can go a long way in helping an orphan become a son or daughter. Five dollars will barely buy a meal at McDonald's(and won't if you like the chicken like me...lol), but it WILL make a tremendous difference in the life of a child.

I've mentioned Bethany's giveaway before. She's giving away a $100 gift certificate to her online store in an effort to raise money to bring home a little girl with Down syndrome from Russia.

Carolee is selling Down syndrome awareness bracelets on her blog. She's raising money to bring a little girl with Down syndrome home from Serbia. I've actually met this angel. She is a beautiful little girl with the prettiest smile.

Jody is also holding a raffle to raise money to travel to Serbia. Her family will be adopting another beautiful angel with Down syndrome. I also had the privilege of meeting this little angel. She's a precious little one who's been waiting a long time for a mommy and daddy of her own.

Lori is a fellow Army wife. She and her husband are raising money to bring home a son and a daughter from Eastern Europe. These children do not have Down syndrome. They were found on the Other Angels page of RR. Both of these children ARE ALREADY LIVING IN AN INSTITUTION. So, it is critical that Lori's family get to them as soon as possible.

Tamijoy is raising money to bring home Noah, who's waiting in Taiwan. They should be getting their travel date this week and are fundraising for the last of the travel funds to bring Noah home!

And last, but certainly not least is a family who, like us, has completed 2 international adoptions of children with Down syndrome from 2 different countries in less than a year. Let me tell you from personal experience.....IT'S EXPENSIVE. Let me tell you something else.....IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY. And, I know that Kris will agree with me. Kris is already home with her two angels, Kara from Ukraine and Amanda from Estonia. Kris is currently auctioning off items to pay off some adoption debt and to buy a double stroller for her new daughters. Kris actually has 3 blogs, one for each of her daughters with Down syndrome. You can find the info HERE about the raffles, along with the link to all her blogs.

There are many other families currently in the process to bring children home from all over the world. Any family who works with Reece's Rainbow has the opportunity to have a sponsorship page, where tax deductible donations can be made toward their donation. You can see all the RR families who are currently somewhere in the adoption process HERE.

And, if you want something to make you smile, go HERE and see all the angels who have already found their way home.

words from Meridith Cornish

The details

We got to talk with Dr. Q and the biggest and best thing that he said is that it is completely unexplainable that her lung pressures are as low as they are! We know it was wholly the power of prayers for Emma. A typical pressure ratio of body to lungs is that the lungs are 1/4 of the body. Emma's are still high- on the moderate side, but he was expecting it to be twice what it is. Her lungs are about 1/2 of the body pressures, so we still have a ways to go, but YAY! It's unexplainable :) I replied to him with no... it's prayer :) He agrees!! :D

Ok, details, (we still haven't seen her) they did a FULL REPAIR! We weren't sure whether they'd need to leave a hole open in order to help with the PH, but he didn't need to because the PH was so much better than he thought.

He addressed what Dr.S had said to him in April after the cath when she said that Emma was inoperable. He said that she had an opinion that the PH was severe and irreversible. He said that he knew that her life wouldn't be more than a few more months without it and agrees with Dr. Nadkarni that if she's not going to live without the repair that it's definitely a reason to try it, and boy was he glad that he did! Her heart is fully repaired, her PH is better than he could have imagined, and GOD has proven himself through this all!

The other little details... There's some leakage in valves... I want to say he said the left valve- too much info all at the same time- and that as long as it stays like it is it's good to go. It's possible that she'll need more work later on for the valves, but it's hard to guess at this point.

She came off the nitrates, which are dilators to my understanding, so that's another positive thing. Also, he said that she does have moderate PVOD (see prior post but I don't have time to link it right now) but it seems that the arteries in the lungs are relaxing how they should- which means that it wasn't irreversible damage to the lungs-- at least not completely.

He mentioned going home on medications for the PH but I was just glad he was talking about going home. We'll figure that all out over the next few weeks.

Dr. Q said this is only the second repair like this that he's done in the past 20 years and was so glad everything turned out like it did!

More later, hopefully we'll get to see her pretty soon!

CANDLE FOR EMMA

Please say a prayer for little Emma as she is scheduled for heart surgery on Monday. Let our prayers be with her and her family during the trying time and that God will be there holding their hands and watching over this precious little girl.
